Reports China is Relaxing Zero Covid-19 Policy

China has had issues recently with managing the highly contagious Omicron variant of Covid-19. To date China has enforced a Zero-covid policy which has recently gained attention globally, gathering critique.

Many have suggested that China adjust to a ‘living with the virus’  approach that Western countries have adopted.

China officials have now decided that infections among close contacts already in isolation facilities don’t pose a high risk. The new figure that Chinese figures will be watching is the number of cases among those not yet in quarantine. When that number falls to zero China will consider an outbreak as contained.

The new goal means lockdown measures can start being eased once zero community spread has been achieved, regardless of changing case numbers in isolation.

This change could see China’s economy have a slight uptick…
